Due to the holidays, we have no adoptions to report this week. However, we would like to do a recap of the adoptions that took place over the past year, and to extend our best wishes to everyone for a happy and healthy new year.

Even with the pandemic we were able to find homes for 77 animals in 2021. There were 63 cats and kittens, five dogs, nine Guinea pigs and one rabbit who found forever homes. Most remained on the Island while some also moved off-Island as well.

If anyone is looking for a new companion for the new year we have Miles, a male tuxedo cat who is seven, Maxine is a petite 16-year-old tabby, and Faith is the old girl in her 20s. The adoption fee will be waived for these older girls.

And there four female Guinea pigs waiting for someone to love. They have been hand-raised and are very friendly. Humpty and Dumpty have been here for a while, and the two other girls just arrived and are only about eight months old.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.

The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662. Hours are: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 to 5 p.m.
