We have many famous authors on Martha’s Vineyard. Many famous people who fish, too. Janet Messineo-Israel is a wonderful combination of both. Janet has been invited to speak at at a fishing club on the north fork of Long Island on March 31. If you fish and have not yet read her books, I suggest you do.

Meanwhile, Jamie Alley is famous for all things theatrical, stage and screen. Jamie will lead us on Monday nights at 6 p m. at the Vineyard Playhouse on Church street. Five dollars at the door gets you into a fabulous movie. He has an interesting and eclectic lineup for Mondays in March, ending with one of my favorites: The Unsinkable Molly Brown, which has a star performance by Debbie Reynolds. I’ll see you there.

Other talented artists performing for our pleasure are renaissance man Mark Alan Lovewell, singer of sea shanties, and our Molly Conole, who brightens our days with song. They perform online every Sunday night at 8 p.m. Bring them into your living room.

Brooklyn’s loss is our island’s gain. The incomparable architectural artist Jack Ryan has his drawings on display for the month of March at the West Tisbury Library. If you have not gone yet please do. It is what your neighbors are up to.

My young neighbor Mary Afton Crandall just spent her vacation week with good friends, the Goodales, in Austria. Her first international trip. Suffice it to say she returned with excellent chocolates. Mary Afton’s basketball season is over at the high school. Now she’s on the soccer team.

In the annual seasonal storefront shuffle I report that Act Two is now on Main street in our town. Sundog has closed in Edgartown; La Choza, still at the start of our Main street, is under new ownership and is offering some St. Patrick’s Day specials. Can you roll corned beef and cabbage into a burrito? I wonder.

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum announces their large campus in our town marks its third year of being open. They offered a nice discount for students on their week off from school.

The Island said goodbye to Josephine Tucker, a legend, last week. I do not know one person who did not adore her. Our condolences to her family and friends.

Orr sympathy goes out to the Macy family on the death of their beloved dog Bodhi. The Nascimento family is devastated by the death of their pooch Pitty. And Rena Viera is mourning the passing of her cat of many years, Paulie. So much sadness.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Trish Moreis-Stiles on March 14. It is a famous date also because it commemorates the birthday of the late Johnny Seaview. As Paul Munafo says, heaven must be an exciting place. March 15 belongs to two men of letters, Jib Ellis and the late Lee McCormack. Peter Fisher also claimed March 15. And on March 16 Kathryn Dimovitch, Nisa Counter and Jemima James take the cake. Many happy returns.
