The rabies clinic is back. The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard ASMV Rabies Clinic will be held Friday, March 19, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the West Tisbury Public Safety Building located at 425 State Road. The fee is $25 and must be in the form of cash or a check. Additionally, dogs must be leashed and cats need to be in carriers. Hope to see you then.

So, it turns out that this column really does connect homeless pets with their people. Last week our featured pet was Sylvester, the tuxedo cat. Someone saw his picture in the paper and just had to have him. And once they met, the feeling from Sylvester was mutual.

Now let’s see if we can make an adoption happen again. This week’s featured pet is Fred the Guinea Pig. Fred is a good size buff and white boy who is friendly and loves his veggies. Can’t you imagine sharing your salad with him? Or if your child hates vegetables this is a good way to dispose of them. Guinea pigs are loads of fun; why not give Fred a home and find out for yourself?

Our other residents in need of homes include Faith, our 22 year-old cat; Lily, the 16 year-old tortoishell; Humpty and Dumpty the Guinea Pig sisters; and Ophelia the hamster cutie.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.

The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662.

Hours are: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 to 5 p.m.
