Our young people are doing well. Congratulations to Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School student Kent Healy. Kent has just completed a course in sustainable global foods systems from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Well done, Kent!

The Martha’s Vineyard Mariners brought back the trophy for the South Coast Hockey League Championship last weekend. More accolades for our kids!

In other hockey news, our police beat the fire department in the fourth annual hockey fundraiser for charity. Yep, our finest against our bravest. Same time, next year.

It’s so nice to see so many traditions returning. Remember, a mask might be required for participation. This weekend, Island Community Chorus will sing you into spring under the direction of Peter Boak at the Old Whaling Church. Two performances for your pleasure: Saturday night at 7:30 and Sunday afternoon at 3. I’ll see you there.

The Neighborhood Convention is returning. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at Grace Church. Reverend Stephen Hardy will speak on Chaplaincy. Masks are required. We are postponing the brown bag lunch and snacks ‘til next year. I’ll see you there.

Very cheerful news from Gretchen Baer, one of our great Island kids who has taken all the talent bestowed on her from her family of artists. Gretchen moved to Bisbee, Ariz. She runs her Studio Mariposa for children from there and in Sonora, Mexico. Gretchen very cleverly got permission from both sides of the border wall for her students to paint it! I hope to show you pictures in the future.

Award-winning writer Geraldine Brooks has a publishing date for her latest: June 14. The book is titled Horse. This woman’s writing grips you. If Nonna or I were reading a Brooks book, no one could speak to us until it was finished in one sitting.

Continued get well wishes go out to Lori Robinson Fisher and Hailey Rogers.
