I don’t want to curse the weather but the T-shirts and flip flops came out this weekend. Yes, we are dealing with the fog and we have to wait patiently for the sun to come through, but if it means that the heat does not have to be on and we can leave the winter coats at home, I will not complain. I think I have often stated that I like the cold, but I will take the 60-plus degrees for a few months.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Russell Coogan and Broden Couto, who celebrated on May 14; Mateo DeOliveira and Owen Ditchfield on May 15; Joao Nunes and Keira Welch on May 16; Kaua Braz, Bianca Nunes and Sloane Phelps on May 17; Summer Cimeno on May 19; and to Isaac Barbosa and Salomao Marcal, who celebrate their day on May 20.
Looking around town, it seems that everything blossomed overnight. The famous cherry trees in front of the Stop & Shop did not fail us again this year. The lilacs had a good year; the maples are bursting in their green and red leaves; the grass is, of course, now greener and the lawn mowers are starting.
For all the friends and family of John (Duzza) McCarron, there will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 5 at the Agricultural Hall from 2 to 5 p.m. Duzza passed away unexpectedly on January 12 and left a big void in many people’s lives. The celebration of his life will be a real celebration — and if you knew Duzza, that is how he would want it to be.
The Edgartown Library has added a program for kids. Every Monday at 3:10 p.m., Bonnie Kingsbury does a weekly workout for kids. It is free and fun. Kids under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. What a great idea for a library. I remember when you had to sit and read in silence. I saw a video of the program and all the kids involved were having a great time. Thank you, Elyce Retmier, for keeping the kids active and healthy.
My street has gotten more active over the past few weeks. There are more sports going on at the baseball fields and tennis courts, and my neighbors have been here: Dana has been getting ready for the summer season, Harry and Judy Stotz and their visitors have been here, and we met our new neighbors Chip and Christina Hall, who are enjoying their new home. So, it is nice to see the lights and I always enjoy the sounds of the kids playing.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
