What a great start to today! Mama turkey brought five little babies by to show them where to get breakfast. A nice beginning to the summer.

Aside from the frustration of the Beach Road repaving, other areas of the island are just as lively in a more pleasant way. Music is big. Dave Willis will play at the gazebo in Oak Bluffs this Sunday, June 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. His newly released album, On Martha’s Vineyard, will be the material you will hear. And Rosie Guerin has a new solo single out, Awakening. Congratulations to two of our favorite Island musicians.

There’s more. Guitarist Rob Lytle has been on the road again, playing all over the country. Resident musicians Molly Conole and Mark Alan Lovewell graced our first First Friday with their music at the bandshell in Owen Park. First Friday was well-attended and thoroughly enjoyed.

Famous photographer Michael Johnson is back at 34A Main street with his photos, calendars and friendly conversation. Stop in and see him behind Claudia’s. The shop is open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also on Main street: our library has new displays, new titles and free wildflower seeds to give you. Let’s keep the bees coming.

Petey’s Coop de Ville had some excitement on Tuesday. A Boston TV program was here filming the restaurant and Shuck Shack. I’ll let you know when it airs.

Our Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School had a beautiful graduation ceremony last weekend. And MVRHS says so long to their graduates at the Tabernacle this Sunday.

Mary Afton enjoyed the Spring Fling dance at our high school on Saturday night. She danced the whole time. It was a nice break for her. She has been attending school and helping her mom Piper Murphy recover from hip surgery.

The Berklee College of Music awarded Ringo Starr with an honorary doctor of music degree. What a fine honor.

Happy birthday to Horizons Geriatric. Nine years. This service for seniors is now helping more than 100 Islanders to negotiate aging.

Anniversary bouquets go out to Jay and Pat Ferriter. They celebrated on June 2.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Wendy Fitting, Susanna Sturgis, Sheryl Enos and Ida Bailey on June 8. June 9 is a party for Ivy Medina, Barbara Grollimund and Woollcott Smith. June 10 shines on Crystal Baker, Denise Dupre, Patty Jannace and Ryan Fisher. And on June 12 Emanuelly Nascimento takes the cake. Many happy returns.
