Unfortunately, we have no adoptions to report this week, but we do have some wonderful pets waiting for their forever homes. This week we’re featuring the guinea pig brothers, Bert and Ernie. Both boys are calico and very handsome. They are people oriented and love to sing, especially when they get their favorite veggies.

Also available are Laverne and Shirley, two large black rabbits. These girls have been hand-raised and are very friendly. At their former home they enjoyed spending time outside in their fenced yard so someplace where they could enjoy some outdoor time would be great for them. These girls would be delightful pets for any rabbit lovers; stop in and meet them!

There a couple of dogs in need of forever homes. Jack is an older gentleman, but he’s very well behaved. He’s a hound mix and, up-to-date and ready to go. And so is Tag, a nine-years old, male, springer spaniel/labrador retriever/boxer mix who is being re-homed due to no fault of his own. He’s a good boy who’s still playful and lots of fun.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard will again be participating in the Edgartown July 4 parade. If you and your leashed dog would like to march with us please meet at the staging area behind the Edgartown School between 4 and 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 4.

We would like to remind everyone that tick and flea season is definitely here so please be diligent about checking your pets and yourself as well as keeping up with flea and tick treatments. Additionally, please be aware of temperatures before taking your dog out on errands with you. A hot car can become a deadly place for a dog very quickly. And remember to check pavement temperatures before taking your best friend for a walk. Hot pavement can burn delicate pads. If it’s too hot on your barefoot, it’s too hot for your pup.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours. The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662.
