We are sliding through September with beautiful weather. Even the rainy days are especially welcome in this drought. I enjoy watching the school kids get on and off their bus at my corner every weekday.
Chicken Alley Thrift Shop wants you to know that they are changing their opening and closing hours. Check on it before you drive down there to get your treasures.
Unfortunately, Winston’s is temporarily closed. They had a small electrical fire there on Saturday. The Oak Bluffs fire department and Tisbury fire department got it under control handily. No one was injured. A bit of reconstruction and Winston’s will reopen and happily serve you your favorite foods.
Sunday’s birthday boy, Jack Ryan, is thrilled to announce he will have an art exhibit at Galaxy Gallery toward the end of the month. Stay tuned because you won’t want to miss this.
Nancy Jephcote’s new adventures in Island string lessons are steaming ahead. I am so grateful my son was able to enjoy her music several times as he grew up here.
Whitney Singh sent me a beautiful picture of her mother Roni DeLuz and her husband Maurice at their wedding last weekend. Roni was beautiful in a pink gown. Family and close friends were there to cheer them on. Whitney made the wedding cake.
The Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living has a great list of events for September. I recommend you check them out.
The first television show I remember watching was the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. My mother was ironing in the living room with our black and white TV on. I was not sure what was happening but I was very impressed. May she rest in peace.
A queen of our hearts on-Island was the remarkable Ellen O’Brien. Artist, florist, gardener, wit, mother, wife and dear friend. Ellen passed last week. Our condolences to her children and friends. We shall miss her.
Get well wishes to our dear Fred Mascolo, Trader Fred. We need him here on-Island!
The birthday bandwagon pulled along Altin Rizi, Heather Goff and Jim O’Neill on Sept. 10. And on Sept. 11, Jack Ryan, Kristen Kauzlauskas and Moira Hawthorne Copeland took the cake. Many happy returns.
