There are no adoptions to report this week, but it does look like Ernie has found a home for the holidays and forever. Such good news! And now we’re hoping to have an empty shelter for the holidays since there are only a few residents.

Our pet of the week is again Ellie, Ernie’s housemate. Ellie is a three-year old American foxhound mix who is an absolute doll. She adores people and is a real snuggle puppy if given the chance. She’s friendly, calm, housetrained, spayed and knows her basic commands, but she is not a fan of cats. Ellie is a good girl who with a little help can become a great addition to any family.

We have two feline residents hoping for homes for the holidays. Alice is a petite, two-year old tabby who likes to call the shots. She can be very affectionate, loves people and gets along with dogs but not cats. She would do best with an experienced cat owner who understands feline quirks since she can easily get over-stimulated.

Also in need of a home is Dee Dee, a two-year old, indoor/outdoor calico who loves being outdoors. Dee Dee is on the shy side and would like a patient owner. We feel that once she feels secure, she will blossom into a sweet, affectionate companion. Could you be her special someone?

We’d like to thank all our fans and supporters who joined us for the Edgartown Christmas Parade. It was a festive way to start the holiday season.

Looking for a gift for the person/people who have everything? Please consider making a donation to the shelter in their name(s). It’s the perfect gift for any occasion.

We’d also like to remind everyone that hunting season continues through the end of the year. Remember to wear bright colors when walking in the woods, and keep your dogs leashed. And please stay out of wooded areas around dawn and dusk.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.
