Seven people were transported to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with injuries Tuesday morning after a dump truck and a sport utility vehicle collided at the intersection of Kennebec and Lake avenues in Oak Bluffs.
Down-Island fire crews were called to the scene of the crash at around 10:40 a.m., according to Oak Bluffs fire chief Nelson Wirtz. All seven people in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, including four children, suffered minor injuries, the chief said.
The children’s ages ranged from eight to one year old, according to Mr. Wirtz.
Four ambulances transported the occupants of the Jeep to the hospital and the intersection was blocked for about half an hour. The driver of the dump truck, the only person in the vehicle, was uninjured, Mr. Wirtz said.
Oak Bluffs police cited the dump truck driver for failing to remain stopped until the intersection was clear, said Sgt. Daniel Cassidy. The woman driving the Jeep was issued a warning for not having her children wearing seatbelts or in a car seat.
Police declined to release the names of the drivers.
