Emily deBettencourt was named Oak Bluffs harbor master Tuesday night, with a unanimous vote by the select board.

Ms. deBettencourt has been the acting harbor master since spring 2021 when former Oak Bluffs harbor master Todd Alexander retired after 29 years. Now, she officially claims the title.

After hearing the harbor advisory committee’s recommendation for Ms. deBettencourt the select board voted to appoint her, which was met with a round of applause from meeting attendees.

“I’m extremely grateful to be in this position, having grown up in Oak Bluffs and worked at the harbor for 10 years,” Ms. deBettencourt said at the meeting. “I think that it’s a good thing for myself and for the town.”
