A whole day dedicated to me and my gang — Tuesday, August 13 is International Left Handers Day. Finally the recognition we deserve. I am waiting for cards, flowers, gifts and homage to be paid.

There is a new band on Island called the Washashores. Their debut gig will be Saturday, August 17 at the Agricultural Fair. Check them out there at 2 pm. We are looking forward to this.

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum has awarded the Martha’s Vineyard Medal to Peter Boak, Berta Welch and Matthew Stackpole as this year’s recipients. Their contributions are uplifting the community through music, strengthening our cultural heritage, and preserving our maritime heritage. Congratulations.

The all-Island Art Show awarded Kathy Poehler a blue ribbon for her entry of a seaweed collage. That piece of art went home with a happy buyer. Eric and Kathy Poehler have been in San Francisco for their beautiful niece Amelia’s wedding. They are exploring walking trails and the Muir woods while there.

Anne D. Grandin will open her show of new luminous landscapes of Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday, August 17 with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Where else but at the Louisa Gould Gallery?

Jennifer McCurdy’s newest porcelain works are on display at the Louisa Gould Gallery through Sepember 7. Exquisite.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Danae Alise and Beth Thigith on August 9; Viktoriya Duarte and Annette Sandrock celebrated on August 10; and on August 15 seasonal resident Carolyn Walters, who just spent a fabulous time in Paris at the Olympics, takes the cake. Many happy returns.

The Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse is continuing with Justin Ahren’s photography exhibit called the Once and Future Earth. Justin is an artist of many talents.
