I have a great idea of how you can spend next Monday, rather than in front of television watching the presidential inauguration. Come to the our annual MV NAACP MLK birthday luncheon on Jan. 20, taking place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the PA Club. New officers will be sworn in. Camaraderie will abound. Like-minded, principled people will attend. Come meet up with your neighbors and friends. If you can help setup or breakdown, please contact Grace Robinson at naacpmvbranch@gmail.com. I’ll see you there.

To quote my favorite line from Dylan Thomas, “Do not go gently into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”

Congratulations to Chris Dolby. He was sworn in as Edgartown police chief. This has made us all so happy. All the other town police chiefs attended the swearing in. The room and hallway was jammed with friends and family. Wonderful.

Our Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse team never quits. The art space is currently displahing the captivating photos of Phyllis Dunn, which are on display through Feb. 14. The opening reception is on Jan. 17 from 4 to 5 p.m.

I shall also see you at the playhouse for the Monday night movie. Be still my heart, it is Paul Newman in Hud! Tickets are only $5.

The playhouse also offers gentle exercise with Kanta Lipsky on Tuesday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required: 508-696-6300.

Another great event to offset next Monday will be the celebration of our great actor and denizen of Martha’s Vineyard, the birthday of Patricia Neal. As you know, our stage at the playhouse is named in honor of this fine person.

I wish you all the best next week. Stay well, stay warm, stay strong!
