Vineyard Steamship Authority officials will hold an informal public meeting next month to talk about the running of the ferry service.

The Island’s representatives on the Steamship governing board and advisory port council group will host the meeting at the Portuguese American Club on March 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

James Malkin, the Vineyard board member, said he, Tisbury port council member John Cahill and Oak Bluffs port council member Joe Sollitto will all be in attendance to provide details about the “lifeline to the Islands.”

The Steamship is going through a transitional moment, looking to hire a new general manager and chief operating officer. The transportation agency is also working to build a new Woods Hole terminal, reservation system and website.

A new citizens group formed by Islanders has also emerged to put pressure on the ferry service.

The event won’t be scripted, Mr. Malkin promised, and there will be a question and answer period for Islanders hoping to learn more.
