Something sweet has been missing from the Vineyard this summer.
The three Murdick’s Fudge locations in Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven have been closed after the operating manager was involved in an accident, according to signs posted on the confectionaries’ doors.
The company, which started on Mackinac Island in Michigan and opened locations on the Vineyard in 1979, wrote that it wanted to reopen as soon as possible.
“We are working hard behind the scenes and look forward to welcoming you back later this summer,” the note read.
Company officials did not respond to requests for comment.
The fudge shops have been a tourist favorite, and they previously hired about 25 employees to make more than 14 different varieties of fudge.
Though the Vineyard locations are closed, Murdick’s signs directed customers to online ordering at the company’s website.
