People are still talking about the no named storm and how much damage it did to some of the trees around the Island, including a loss of power for a day or two. I was looking at social media and saw a few Island cars that were crushed by trees. Let’s hope that was the last of them.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Maya Wallace, who celebrated Oct. 20; Sawyer Grady, Oct. 21; Yan Deoliveria and Westin Holland, Oct. 22; Pedro Abreu, Daniel Sawers, Oct. 23; Braylin Hattingh, Oct. 24; and to Emily Crowell, Landon Dyer and Claire Proctor who all celebrate their day Oct. 25.
Maureen Jackson West came home for the first time in 30 years to visit family and friends. Maureen’s first stop was to join up with her son Justin, who lives in Chicago Ill, and traveled to Gillette Stadium for a Patriots game.
Then they came to the Island where they stayed with Maureen’s brother Paul Jackson, and split her time between him and her niece Sandy Alestra and her husband Vinny. They were thrilled to catch up with many of her niece’s nephews, and many cousins. But one of her highlights was catching up with old friends, Madeline Fisher, Joan Condlin, Sandy Grant and Sara Piazza. It was a fun trip that went all too fast.
I know that it was all over the papers and social media that Michelle Obama visited the Edgartown Library and there were pictures of the children with the former First Lady, but I actually found out about it through Paula Della Russo, who I work with. Seems Paula’s daughter Ruby Della Russo, was one of the children at the library and she texted her mother. This is something these children will never forget.
The Federated Church will be holding their annual Bow Workshop, on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Parish House at 45 South Summer street. There is a sign up sheet on the Festival of Wreaths Bulletin Board or call 508-627-4421.
Just a friendly reminder that there are only nine Fridays till Christmas. I am so excited that I have four presents bought already, and they are not even for me.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
