The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the Cape and Islands from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7. Winds are predicted to gust as high as 65 mph.

The Steamship Authority began cancelling ferries with the 12:20 p.m. boat from Vineyard Haven to Woods Hole. Boats are operating on a trip by trip basis, communications director Sean Driscoll said in an email. Currently, boats have been cancelled well into the evening.

According to Bryce Williams at the National Weather service, the peak high winds will continue through 5 p.m.

“We are in the thick of it now,” he said. “It will stay gusty through the overnight hours and gradually taper off with morning sunrise gusts expected to be around 30 mph.”

Mr. Williams said he is not expecting any coastal flooding on the Vineyard, although there was some on Nantucket due to the quick drop in air pressure.
