Once again lanterns will be hung from the porches with care as Grand Illumination night returns this summer on August 18.

The Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association will host the annual tradition which begins at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs and stretches out to all of the houses and porches in the Campground.

The event dates back to 1869. The 151st celebration was canceled last year due to the pandemic.

The Camp Meeting Association said it will wait to review pandemic conditions closer to the event to decide whether there will be any restrictions.
