We have just received the news that the Ocean View Restaurant was destroyed by a fire.
My wife and I are in Florida so we received the information late.
Seeing the name Ocean View Restaurant brought back a memory about an event that occurred in August, 1956, 66 years ago.
My wife and I were on our honeymoon on the Vineyard staying at her parents home in the Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association on Forest Circle.
One evening we decided to stroll to the Ocean View for dinner. We dined on the porch, which was available for dining at that time. After dinner we had a creme de menthe parfait, a delicious dessert that we never had before that evening.
At that time in 1956 one could actually view the harbor from the porch of the Ocean View, so we sat there for awhile to take in the lovely view.
Hopefully in the near future the Ocean View will be available for dining once again.
