This week we’re happy to report that Orca, the young male tuxedo has moved on to his new forever home. Congratulations to Orca and his new person.

Our featured pet of the week is Mozzie, a stunning, female, long-haired, gray and white tuxedo. She’s only five years old, very playful, and a real sweetheart. Her owner passed away and now Mozzie is here with her sister Teaser, a tuxedo. If you’re interested in both, we would be willing to waive the adoption fee for Teaser.

There are a couple of other cats in need of homes. Dusty and Gracie are 11-year old housemates that we would like to re-home together so their adoption fees will be waived. Dusty is a light silver/buff medium hair and Grace is tabby and white. Both are very sweet girls who are shy due to being frightened being at the shelter and need a stable home.

Laverne and Shirley are two large black rabbits who come with their own hutch and love living outdoors. These girls have been hand raised and are very friendly. And if you prefer guinea pigs, we also have two calico males, Bert and Ernie.

Thank you to everyone who came out to join us on a blistering hot Saturday for the Celebration of Pets, Animals Great and Small. A special thanks to Jeremy Jones, Karen Ogden, Ellen and Ella Blodgett, Sarah McKay, Reverend Baker and Rabbi Broitman, Annie Parsons, Barbara Ronchetti, Marc Street, Lauren Lynch and Chris Lyons, and all our wonderful volunteers for making this such a fun day for everyone.

We would like to remind everyone that tick and flea season is definitely here so please be diligent about checking your pets and yourself as well as keeping up with flea and tick treatments.

Additionally, please be aware of temperatures before taking your dog out on errands with you. A hot car can become a deadly place for a dog very quickly. And remember to check pavement temperatures before taking your best friend for a walk. Hot pavement can burn delicate pads. If it’s too hot on your barefoot, it’s too hot for your pup.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.
