Well, I finally saw my first snowfall of the year and now I am satisfied. The sun is now shining and I think it has been a while since I have enjoyed it. It gives you a different energy and I hope it lasts for a few days.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Hailey Waters, who celebrated her day Jan. 14; Enzo Duarte on Jan. 15; Ester Da Silva and Danika Peters on Jan. 16; Emily Barbosa on Jan. 17; Pedro Oliveira and Gabriela Otoni on Jan. 19; and to Kayo De Oliveira, who celebrates her day on Jan. 20.
Being home after three weeks away is nice. However, my house is too quiet after time with three kids and the hustle and bustle of getting them here and there. I can honestly say that the withdrawal takes some getting used to.
The construction in town is moving right along. The house across from Cannonball Park is growing fast and the Stop & Shop looks like it is going to carry many new things. I am waiting for the drive-thru at the bank to be open sooner rather than later.
The Wharf Restaurant and Pub had a dine-in on Martin Luther King Jr. Day for the eighth grade class for their trip to Washington, D.C. So, my niece Debbie and I went to lunch. As usual, it was delicious and we enjoyed the crew that works there. It was quiet enough to enjoy them.
When you are parked in the parking lot in front of the Edgartown Yacht Club, your eyes are drawn to the harbor. Even empty of all the sail boats, we still saw the all the scallop boats with their gear ready for the next trip out. To me, this is still one of the best sights. The water was like glass and as we stood there, a scalloping crew was coming in with their daily catch and left you knowing this is the way of the Island.
We drove out of the parking lot and noticed we could drive down to Memorial Wharf. It was the first time I had seen it since the new construction. You now have a couple of steps up to the actual dock and the new stairs to the top of the wharf are made for everyone to be able to climb to enjoy the view. I really liked the improvements and know that many people will enjoy it.
Don’t forget to check out the library activities. They have something for everyone. Elyse and the children’s programs she creates are amazing and she sure keeps them busy.
Also, check out the paper and advertisements for Rockfish. They are doing specials every night and there is something for everyone. We all know winters can be tough and it lifts the spirits if you can get out for a meal here and there.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
