Main street in Vineyard Haven was partially closed to vehicle traffic for several hours Monday after firefighters responded to a faulty furnace in a building.

Officials closed the street around 11 a.m. after a report of smoke in 58 Main street, which is home to Island Music and Blue Fathom Gallery.

Tisbury fire Deputy Chief Patrick Rolston, who was appointed last week to lead the department while Chief Greg Leland is out on leave, said a furnace backfired in the building. There were no injuries.

Firefighters ventilated the building to get the smoke and carbon monoxide out and the street was reopened around 1 p.m.
