A Chelmsford woman allegedly crashed a SUV into a utility pole by the State Road gas station in West Tisbury early Friday morning, knocking out power for nearby homes for a brief period. 

Isabelle Cole, 23, was driving the Toyota RAV4 that struck the pole around 1 a.m., according West Tisbury police chief Matt Mincone. 

When police arrived at the scene, the SUV was on its roof with the pole severed and hanging by the wires, he said. 

“The accident shut the power off, and when it was safe to repower, Eversource came, replaced and fixed the pole,” Mr. Mincone said.

Ms. Cole is facing three charges – operating under the influence, negligent operation and driving at a greater than reasonable speed.  

Ms. Cole was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, but didn’t suffer any major injuries. according to Mr. Mincone. No other injuries were reported in the single-vehicle accident.
