A lawsuit over a workplace injury at the Steamship Authority was settled earlier this fall.

Keith Maxwell, a deckhand for the Steamship Authority, came to an undisclosed agreement with the boat line on Oct. 8, resulting in the dismissal of the case in the Boston federal court.

Details of the settlement were not included in the court record and the Steamship Authority declined to comment on the case.

Mr. Maxwell sued the Steamship Authority in June 2023, claiming he fractured his right fibula due to the unseaworthiness of the M/V Nantucket.

Mr. Maxwell was working aboard the vessel in 2020 when a hinged deck plate collapsed under his weight, causing him to fall into an opening above the engine shaft, according to his complaint.

He blamed the negligent design and maintenance of the vessel under the Steamship Authority.
