Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday. For those who enjoy stargazing, that means an extra hour for favorite evening activities. Standard time arrives at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Clocks fall back one hour, which of course also means an extra hour of sleep Sunday morning.

Early risers benefit the most from the time change, with daylight greeting them before their coffee instead of darkness.

Last weekend’s coastal northeaster did far more damage on the mainland than here. On the Vineyard it was mainly a night of high winds and rain. Phil Hale at the Martha’s Vineyard Shipyard reported the wind anemometer at the shipyard on Beach Road recorded a high of 68 mph. The storm deposited a thick layer of seaweed lines on shoreline ringing Vineyard Haven harbor.

One 20-plus foot sailboat flipped over at its mooring in Edgartown harbor and partially sank. “We are thankful it came at the end of October,” said harbor master Charlie Blair. “It makes a hell of a difference when you have no boats in the harbor.”

Total rainfall from the storm was 1.70 inches, recorded at the cooperative weather station in Edgartown.
