The first steps to staring your own business are coming up with an idea and then deciding to take that leap of faith. But what happens next? In particular, how does one keep a business thriving and what sort of changes does a small business owner need to make after switching hats from entrepreneur to business manager?

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, the Martha’s Vineyard Women’s Network has invited Joan Chaput, a CFO with a large and successful business, to talk about these issues during a workshop that combines strategic tools for forecasting growth, understanding cash and funding, and even a bit of soul-searching into your personal connection to your business. She will also discuss the often overlooked concepts of cash flow and working capital in the framework of a growing business.

Ms. Chaput holds an MBA from Simmons College and has worked as the CFO of several fast growing businesses over the past 30 years. Most recently she has assumed the task of financial accounting for the YMCA and has helped to steer it from a mere concept several years ago to the dynamic organization it is today.

The talk takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Baylies Room of the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. The cost for members of the women’s network is $15 and $25 for nonmembers and walk-ins.
