Happy New Year. So far it has been interesting. Warm sweater weather, cold, mild again then just when you think we are doing well bam! We get snow. Oh well, this is New England after all so we all know we will get the snow sooner or later.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day these past two weeks. Big balloons go out to Cicero Batista Neto, Molly Pogue, Paige Pogue and Spencer Pogue, who all celebrated Dec. 26; Caroline Conover, Rebecca Parente, Dec. 27; Noah BenDavid, Daniel Resto, Dec. 29; Alexander Walsh, Jack Walsh, Dec. 31; Cuyler Fisher, Jan. 1; Emily Gazzaniga, Jan. 3; Amelia Russell Schaeffer, Tatum Thomas, Jan. 4; Ingrid Gundersen, Jan. 5; and to Mario Arellino who celebrates his day Jan. 7.
I spent Christmas in Plymouth with my nephew Doug and his wife Lori. They have two children — Sabrina, 3, and Benjamin who turned two on Dec. 23. There is nothing like seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child, and seeing that Santa does really exist, and really brought all the princesses she asked for and the trains that were on Ben’s list. He also brought bikes, which Santa thought they needed and they loved because it was warm enough to go outside and ride them.
I also spent New Year’s there and saw the festivities through the eyes of a 39-year-old man. Everyone was happy and having a great time and then Doug and his best friend and brother in law, Rob, decided that the kids should learn about New Year’s Eve, and so the kids soon joined the party much to the dismay of their mother and me, thinking now they will be up for the rest of the night. However, the kids participated and Ben thought it was cool drinking the sparkling cider out of the fancy glasses once he figured out how to get it in his mouth because the glass was a lot longer than he was used to.
After the kids had settled down again, Doug, Rob and I experienced a Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel concert on the new TV. They thought it was pretty cool that Auntie Kathie was staying up and jamming with them until I reminded them they were sitting on my bed. Oh well, good memories for another holiday.
It is a slow time of year for news as many people have started their journey to either the warmer weather or, for those who love the snow, heading north for winter activities. If you have any adventures you would like to share please let me know. You can contact me through email, which I prefer so it does not get lost, or leave a message on my machine. The information is at the top of this column.
I hope you all have a very happy and healthy new year.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
