Eight candidates are running for seven seats on the Dukes County Commission. The Gazette emailed questions to all the candidates asking them to speak to their qualifications and the role of the commission.

Norman L. Perry
Town: Chilmark

Occupation: Retired

Reason for Running

It is in my personal plan to continue to serve the governing bodies of the towns, county and state on the Island. I am attracted to the opening for the Dukes County Commissioner position, they have an enormous scope of responsibilities for the Dukes County service, other public services and other regional services. As a former IBMer it is instinctive for me to review processes and discuss with the team of commissioners. Issues bring opportunities. I am excited to be a member of the commissioners’ team and am ready for the challenge.

Qualifications

IBM retiree, police commissioner, personnel board, West Tisbury personnel board, County, airport commission chairman, West Tisbury police station building committee (completed on schedule, under budget), Martha’s Vineyard Community Service CONNECT group, West Tisbury constable, veteran, U.S. Army.

Role of County Commission

Unifying the towns, bringing them together, addressing the issues as a team, develop a detailed plan of action, set follow up with dates and time, track to completion. All are welcome to come to our monthly meetings.
