E.T. is landing in a field near you.

On the screen E.T. lands in the forest on his misdirected trip to Earth, but here on the Vineyard, the cutest extraterrestrial ever will land in the big field at the Agricultural Hall on July 31, among a sea of cars for the first-ever drive-in movie event.

The evening is courtesy of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival and the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society, as part of a joint fundraiser for the two organizations. The movie begins at 8 p.m. but come as early as 6:30 to get a prime parking spot to watch the movie — there will be a 40-foot screen with the sound arriving via an FM transmitter that sends audio to car stereos. Prior to the film there will be live music, and food from various Island vendors.

No car, no problem — walk-ups are welcome too.

Tickets and more information can be found at tmvff.org/drivein.
