How is it that August on the Island can be so different from July? It's all about location in the landscape of summer. July opens the season, and from its vantage point at the near shore of summer, the days seem to extend almost endlessly, with autumn somewhere over the horizon. August is a more festive but less leisurely month, because it concludes the season, and it offers a clear view to the comparative calm of September.
