Fog crept in over the Vineyard this week, settling snugly over farmhouses in Edgartown and the craggy clay cliffs at Lucy Vincent. The snow is gone but the gray quiet of winter lingers. The landscape itself has been muted.
This week the first osprey of the season was seen over Major's Cove, this summer bird crossing paths with the snowy owls on the Island that have yet to fly north. A barred owl was heard in Edgartown, calling "hoo hoo hoo hoo" in the dark quiet before dawn.
