Morning walk at Jetty Beach in Oak Bluffs. Tim Johnson

Saturday, November 2, 2019

Sixty minutes doesn't seem that much of a change, and for most a single hour's difference means only minor adjustments in our everyday lives. Early risers, school children, farmers and milk cows prefer the morning light. Others complain about ending the work day in darkness, about missing that long and lovely fade of twilight on the Vineyard.

For the Vineyard, it is the true start of winter, even though autumn officially extends far into December. There will be an entirely different rhythm to our days, and it is the rhythm of our quiet time.
