There is a melancholy in the air, along with the bright fall colors. Signs in shop windows now say closed for the season, and in the Camp Ground only a few lights glow from the gingerbread cottages.

The temperature drops, the evening arrives earlier and shutters go up along Island main streets. As the sun sets on the Indigenous Peoples Day weekend, it is official: The off-season has begun.
