Flooded dock, Menemsha. Albert O. Fischer

Saturday, March 3, 2018

The Vineyard was a scene of flooded roads and docks, eroded shorelines, beached sailboats and downed trees Saturday following the severe northeast storm that battered the Island all day Friday with hurricane-force winds, heavy rains, and extreme tides.

Photos from the storm Friday.

We have close family who live on the Island . I was very concerned to see the damage caused by the storm It looked as if the trees that fell may not have caused too much damage to the homes ? However many beautiful boats look as if they have been very badly damaged - so sad . Our unprecedented snow and wind has caused whole villages to be cut off. It was wind from Siberia . Then we were hit from the Portuguese storm Emma - more snow and winds !
