The thunder began booming from the west on Saturday and savvy Islanders packed up their towels and left the beaches. Soon the storm front could be seen moving quickly across the Sound.

But after such ominous clouds, a very brief rain fell, sunshine appeared again, and some were left with a vague feeling of disappointment. A rainbow helped, but gosh, we could have used some rain.
