ACE Collaborates With Northeastern University

The Adult and Community Education Program of Martha’s Vineyard (ACE MV) has a new collaboration with the Northeastern University, allowing Vineyarders a much-needed opportunity to earn college credits without leaving the Island.

ACE MV will provide professional development courses for graduate and undergraduate college credit, in addition to its wide-ranging roster of 50 enrichment courses and seminars starting Oct. 5.

A small group of Islanders spent the six-week winter term for the Adult and Community Education (ACE MV) program preparing for spring in Nicaragua. Some were busy studying the history of Latin America and the Caribbean; others enrolled in beginner Spanish or took a one-day training workshop for teaching the English language through the arts. Some took all three.

KEEP PANTRY FULL

I work at the food pantry as a volunteer. I now get it about the hardship on Island that justifies support for the food pantry. It’s real to me, now I see that it’s more that just putting some groceries in the purple boxes in the supermarket. The need is real. I see the elderly, infirm, single mothers, mentally incapacitated, unemployed people come in, and they all need to eat.

Resumé Builder: Classes for Professional Development

Three Adult and Community Education (ACE MV) professional development opportunities begin Jan. 29. The three courses are either for college credit, or certification, or work towards certification: English Composition 102-49 taught by Peg Regan through Cape Cod Community College, EKG and CPR training towards a medical certificate taught by Nancy Phillips, M.S.N., A.P.R.N. through Health Training Center, ServSafe Food Sanitation Training taught by Alice Robinson.

Cooking in the Curriculum: ACEMV Heads to Kitchen

Island chefs and healthy cooking experts soon will be offering classes through Adult and Community Education (ACE MV).

On Jan. 25 MJ Delekta, director of the Sacred Circle of Yoga, will be teaching The Yoga of Food Cooking Workshop.

On Feb. 2 especially (but not exclusively) for Valentine’s Day, Christian Thornton, owner and chef of Atria Restaurant, will be guiding would-be lovers of all ages to cook a simple dinner for those you love, a meal sure to impress with minimal time in the kitchen.
