August rushes in like a rogue wave. Steamy heat, pastel sunsets, peaches, nectarines and zucchinis, fresh corn, offshore tuna trips, wild blueberries, beach bonfires, Chilmark Tavern onion rings, house guests and more.
The Bunker Ponte bearded dragon lizard, Zeb, has gone missing. He is the beloved pet of Jake, Shelby, Hunter, Erica and Kenny Ponte and resides at their home on Beetlebung Farm.
Guess who I spotted out for a slow and steady stroll on Basin Road. Yes! Jane (New Knee) Slater, escorted by her very dedicated and patient daughter in law, Chris, was upright managing quite nicely with her new knee in place.
July always reminds me of that noteworthy quote from the cult classic film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
With gray skies and fog it seemed as if summer was never going to reveal itself. All of a sudden, the clouds have made way for warm breezes and fiery sunsets. Warm breezes have blown in a lot of friends and summertime neighbors.
Update: She’s home. Sweet Jane Slater is back at her Basin Road home in some discomfort but reminding herself that all the adventures that come along with her new knee will be worth it.
Chilmark is enjoying the first real thunderstorm of the season with some loud thunder over Menemsha on Tuesday evening that had produced a pretty but cloudy sunset earlier. The storm caps two really hot days that folks would have called weather breeders back in the day.
This Saturday is the annual children’s fair at the Chilmark Community Church. It will be from 10 a.m. to noon. There are many games, pony rides, a bounce house and always cupcakes. There is no charge and all children are welcome.
