Seventy-nine students were named to the Falmouth Academy Headmaster’s List for the third trimester of the 2007-2008 academic year. To be named to the list, students must earn at least three As in their five core subjects and have no grade lower than a B minus.
Vineyard Haven resident Clea C. Baumhofer is one of three Falmouth Academy seniors named a semifinalist in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship program.
Clea, the daughter of Kim and Mark Baumhofer, has been at Falmouth Academy since seventh grade. She is a member of the National Honor Society and of the Falmouth Academy orchestra, where she plays the violin. She also plays basketball and has acted in several school drama productions. She is one of six members of the Falmouth Academy remotely operated vehicle team.
Nine students from Martha’s Vineyard were named to the Headmaster’s List at Falmouth Academy for the second trimester of the 2009-2010 academic year. These students earned at least three As and had no grade lower than a B-minus:
Twelfth grade: Clea Baumhofer, of Vineyard Haven; Lily Cronig, of West Tisbury; and Lagan Trieschmann, of Vineyard Haven.
Eleventh grade: Emelia Armstead, of Edgartown.
Eighth grade: Julia Guérin, of Edgartown; Nathaniel Horwitz, of Vineyard Haven; and Jacqueline Menton, of Vineyard Haven.
Several Martha’s Vineyard students earned awards at Falmouth Academy’s annual Recognition Day ceremonies, June 12. The ceremonies honored character, hard work, imagination, personal and academic growth, and community achievements.
Lagan Trieschmann, class of 2010, the son of Beth and Stephen Trieschmann of Vineyard Haven, earned the all-school Bruce E. Buxton Award for Imagination as well as an award for excellence and leadership in martial arts. He will attend Princeton University this fall.
The Falmouth Academy this week announced the Vineyard winners at the academy’s science fair.
Seventh grader Eli Hanschka, son of Nancy Tutko and Whit Hanschka of Vineyard Haven, won fourth place in the middle school (grades 7 and 8) for his research into the effect of water pH on the germination of bean seeds.
Sophomore Signe Baumhofer, the daughter of Kim and Mark Baumhofer of Vineyard Haven, earned honorable mention in the upper school for her research and defense of her project titled, “Does your healthy lawn include clover?”
David C. Faus, headmaster of Falmouth Academy, announced that nine Vineyard students were named to the academy headmaster’s list for the second trimester. They are: seniors Emelia Armstead of Edgartown and Kinsman Maynard of Chilmark; eighth graders Caley Bennett, Alec Cobban and Quinn Cobban of Edgartown, Eli Hanschka of Vineyard Haven and Aidan Huntington of West Tisbury; and seventh graders Zachary Bresnick and Nathan D’Angelo of West Tisbury.
