The Martha’s Vineyard Commission opted to continue the public hearing a controversial expansion project at the Harbor View Hotel, asking the hotel to provide a description of future plans.

Heightened tensions between the Harbor View Hotel and its North Water street neighbors around use of a private dock boiled over into the Edgartown selectmen’s meeting Monday.

Frustrated North Water street residents sounded off on an ongoing expansion plan at the hotel that began two years ago.

A proposal by the historic Harbor View Hotel to continue its long-term, $55 million renovation project and expand its spa is seeing pushback from North Water street neighbors.

The historic Harbor View and Kelley House hotels in Edgartown were sold at public auction this week to First Winthrop Corp., a Boston real estate company which owns 160 commercial properties on Nantucket. Purchase price was $12,305,000.

In the spirit of compromise, Edgartown selectmen voted to limit the hours at the Harbor View Hotel’s outdoor pool bar.

Abutters to the Harbor View Hotel were properly notified about a zoning hearing on changes to the hotel’s pool bar, a superior court judge said.

Edgartown building inspector Leonard Jason Jr. has issued a cease and desist order for renovations on the Harbor View Hotel’s Mayhew building.

The Harbor View Hotel will close from Oct. 1 until Memorial Day 2019 as extensive renovations begin on the historic Edgartown hotel.

The historic Edgartown hotel has been sold to Upland Capital Corporation, a Boston-based asset management and real estate investment firm founded by seasonal resident Bernard Chiu.
