The Martha’s Vineyard YMCA’s $30 million field-house expansion, set to add classroom space and an indoor basketball court and track to the Oak Bluffs facility, has cleared its final permitting hurdles and is preparing to break ground next spring.
The Martha’s Vineyard Commission voted Thursday to approve a 39,000-square-foot addition at the YMCA in Oak Bluffs, with the written decision to be filed in early January.
Officials from the YMCA presented their application to build a 39,000-foot addition, adding an indoor basketball court, exercise studios, indoor track and a golf simulator to the existing facility.
At Monday night’s high school committee meeting, YMCA executive director Jill Robie-Axtell unveiled plans and illustrations for the three-level addition, complete with a new gymnasium, indoor track and exercise studios.
