Chilmark enjoyed the wonderful light of the full moon for several nights this week past. The light, among other things, made hunting for a meal easier for the night feeders as I learned when I viewed the mums at my cellar door in daylight.

Chilmark is working its way through a mild and pretty October. There is a lot going on and everything seems to be under control. The town is having the North Road repaired in places. This last week the Tabor House stretch was paved and now the D.H.’s Hill will be done beginning this Friday and continuing Monday if weather permits.

Chilmark is gliding seamlessly through this unseasonable fall weather. No wind, lots of sun and still very few fall colors in the greenery. The sides of the road are full of yellow and purple wild flowers, lush green growth and the usual flocks of turkeys, always on their way to the other side of the road.

Chilmark Town Column: Sept. 27

Chilmark is happy to be the host town for the 5th annual Salt Water Challenge. Salt Water Heroes, wounded veterans from across the country, will gather at the Beach Plum Inn for a week of derby fishing from Sept. 29 through Oct. 4. This popular event is hosted by the Nixon family who owns and operates Beach Plum Inn, Menemsha Inn and the Home Port Restaurant. The veterans will begin their fishing days at approximately 7 a.m. at the Menemsha dock and return at approximately 11 a.m. They will be weighing in at the weigh station at approximately 8 p.m. each evening. We are all welcome to see them off and welcome them home and watch them weigh in. Please contact jgrace@innsatmenemsha.com for more details.
