Fog, heat and humidity are the weather of the week. I know in Edgartown we are sometimes the last to see the sun and Vineyard Haven is in full sun. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the month brings us.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Rose Levesque, who celebrated her day June 10; Kayra Carlos, June 17; Lucas Goncalves, June 18; Asher Savva, June 21; Christian Fisher, June 22; and to Carlos Arellano and Isabelle Murphy who celebrate June 23.
Congratulations to Linley Dolby and her husband David Weagle on the birth of their son Otis Apollo, who was born June 14 and weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces. So happy for you both and can’t wait to meet the new member of the family.
Congratulations to Ryan and Michelle Mundt on the birth of their son Levi Steven Mundt who was born June 14. Levi, named after his great-great-grandfather Levi Jackson, weighed 7 pounds 1.6 oz and was 19.75 inches long. He is the little brother of Evangelina (Lina) Mundt. Congratulations to all. They live in East Haven, Conn. so we look forward to the visits to meet Levi.
Because this is such a great story and such a touching story of a seven-year-old child, I decided to copy his mother Lindsey's words on Facebook. Isaac Trance is son of Lindsey and Michael Trance and is about to finish the first grade. Lindsey wrote: "Two years ago, on the way to his preschool, he told me that kids get sick sometimes. I thought he meant a cold or the flu but he said, No mama, sometimes kids get so sick that they lose all of their hair. I want to grow mine to give it to them.
"And that is exactly what he’s been doing. For these past two years he has stuck to his goal, it hasn’t always been easy for him. He has been teased, he has had his hair pulled on, he’s been lectured and ridiculed, and many times he was mistaken for a girl.
"Through all of that he stayed strong and dedicated to his cause. He has been a true inspiration to me and although I have been proud of this sweet boy many, many times, I have never been prouder of him as I was on Friday, when the day came that he walked into Seniel’s Circuit Style and cut his hair. He was able to donate six ponytails to Wigs for Kids, an organization that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to childhood illnesses."
Thank you Isaac, you have made some children happy with your donation. We are so proud of you.
The annual meeting of the Friends of the Edgartown Library will be held at the library on Thursday, June 29 at 5 p.m. A reception will follow to thank outgoing trustees (Denise Searle, Carl Watt, Deanna Ahearn Laird, and Bob Avakian) and welcome our two new incoming trustees (David Faber and Chris Scott).
Boston-based entertainer Jungle Jim will launch the summer reading program with an event for kids at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury. Jungle Jim will present a program with a Minecraft theme, featuring a mix of balloon artistry, magic, comedy, storytelling and improvisation with young volunteers taking part. Admission is free. This event is jointly sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Library Association and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
