We have had some sun, a lot of rain and wind. But when the sun is out the sky is a beautiful blue and you can almost see the grass growing. The leaves are coming out and the plum and cherry trees are in full bloom. Yes spring is here. Now we just need temperatures above 50 degrees.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Madison Mello who celebrated April 27; Finnegan McDonald, Matthew Ribeiro and Paige Smith, who all celebrated April 28; Clara Rabeni, April 29; Ariel Meyer, April 30; Kevin Castro and Nicholas Rabeni, May 2; and to Paige Anderson and Adeline Chandler who celebrate their day today May 3.
Plants are growing crazy right now. But this is the time of year that we almost fight with people about the time to put plants outside. We have some perennials out and some annuals, but most are still inside because the last frost day is usually around May 15. However, we always say Memorial Day. I know it is hard because when the weather is good we all want that color in the yards and gardens. I did a few years back. I was not working at the nursery, and I thought I would get everything done before Memorial Day. I went and got a lot of plants and spent the weekend planting. A week later we got a frost and I lost everything. Lesson learned, no more planting for this gardener until the first week in June. That is not to say some flowers can’t be planted. There are some that are hardened off and can take some cold, but you still have to be careful because the frost will kill all the leaves.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
