We have had some great weather. On Saturday there was such a beautiful sky and Sunday was the same. I think many of us were outside soaking up the Vitamin D and exercising by raking leaves or putting gardens to bed or even just taking a walk. Whatever it was I hope you enjoyed it.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Jesse Myers, Gianni Navarrete and Jesse Reed who celebrated Nov. 2 ; Zoe Tucker, Nov. 4; Emma Braillard, Jamison DeMello, Nov. 5 ; Hannah McCormick, Nov. 7; and to Sophia Dos Santos, Michael Leahy and Seamus McKeon who all celebrate their day Nov. 8.

On Friday Nov. 8, the animal shelter will host the Celebration of 1000 Loves, Lives and Tails. Since 2009 the shelter has found homes for over 1,000 animals. The celebration will be from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the P.A. Club in Oak Bluffs. Be their guest and enjoy live music by Maggie’s Kitchen.

I know I mention social media a lot and I have been thinking about its use. I love it because I get to see friends that live far away, but my main reason is to see family members and their children as they grow. Even people here that you don’t see much of you can catch up with on social media and check on their children and their accomplishments as they get older.

What got me thinking about this is my great niece Amanda Lambert who sent me a Snapchat of her three-year-old son Oliver trying to reason with Amanda on why he was on the table throwing his toys at his younger brother. Oliver insisted that he had to throw them to keep his brother away so Jonah would not hit him again. When Amanda replied that Jonah had not hit him, Oliver replied: “Well, he was going to hit me.”

Now Oliver has brown curly hair and was standing with his little sweatpants and no shirt looking at the phone with one curl going down the middle of his forehead, and all the shrugs and hand gestures that go along with the denial. When Amanda came back with the statement that he did not earn a popsicle that night, Oliver came back with the “But Mom” card.

Now that I have told the story you are trying to imagine what this looked like, but with Snapchat you can actually see it unfold, and I felt like I was in the kitchen with them. So yes, to me, modern devices have their pluses.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
