After a week of the heat being down since November, I have just turned it back up. The fog has set in and looks like it will be staying. But we had a great tease and we know now it won’t be long before the shorts and flip-flops will be out.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Madelyn Crowell and Hunter Gilkes, who celebrated April 10; Francisco Candido, April 11; and to Lillian Avakian who celebrated her day April 12.

The daffodils are blooming, so is the muscari and pansies. They are making us all smile at their beauty. But this is also the time of year, considering my job at the nursery, that my co-workers and I warn people that it is still too early for some plants. The official frost date is May 15, but I like to encourage people to not plant until Memorial Day. You can do your planters if you like and leave them out during the warm days, but you should bring them in at night for a while. You can also put some herbs out.

Even though many people stayed on the Island this year, there were a lot of homeowners who came down this past weekend. People are painting, cleaning their yards, getting shrubs and cleaning inside their homes to get ready for the coming season. Even though we are all still trying to keep our distance it is nice to see the familiar faces.

Edgartown Seafood opens this weekend. I am so excited to get my fresh salmon. I have also been craving mussels and steamers. We used to go digging steamers this time of year. We even did with snow on the ground because they had sat over the winter and they were nice and pumped out. Also, there is nothing like the first batch of seafood fresh from the water. So welcome back to Dan and his crew. Hope you enjoyed your time off.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
