Peggy King Jorde, an expert on African burial grounds, will give a virtual talk on August 17 at 3 p.m. as part of the Martha’s Vineyard chapter of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.

Ms. Jorde’s roots on the Vineyard extend back to 1907, when her relative William Henry Kiner moved to Oak Bluffs. Her scholarship into African burial grounds began in New York city during Mayor David Dinkin’s administration, and has continued ever since.
