Finally, the relief we needed from the heat. The sky has been that beautiful blue. There have been fluffy clouds and cool mornings — my favorite kind of weather.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Holden Graczykowski, who celebrated his day on August 14; Renato Araujo and Ayden Roginski on August 15; Victor Dutra and Allicia Guimaraes on August 16; Gabriel de Souza and Maria Pizzico on August 18; and to Henry Banks, who celebrates on August 19.

Congratulations to Donna Blackburn, who was surprised to learn that she was one of the 112 people out of hundreds to be chosen for the 2022-2023 online art exhibition sponsored by the Allied Artists of America. This was the first associates show offered by this esteemed art organization, which has been in business since 1914.

It is Donna’s first national exhibit. If you wish to view her entry, go to the Allied Artists of America website, tap the bar that says associates online show, then oil and acrylic exhibitors. Scroll down 11 paintings until you come to the painting titled You Win!

Donna has also organized a baby/toddler blanket project through St Andrew’s Church for the youngsters in Ukraine who are sure to face a tough time this coming winter. If you quilt, knit, crochet or sew, please consider making a baby or toddler-size blanket. There are no specific sizes. Just keep in mind that these blankets are for the pre-school set.

This project has two reliable sources for distribution overseas: former Edgartown resident Bill MacKenty and his wife Dagmar, who live in Warsaw, Poland; and Pam Lingren. The deadline for this project is September 30. Drop off is at St Andrew’s Church Parish Hall or contact Donna and she’ll arrange a pickup time for you. If you have any questions, please call me at 508-627-8747 or email me at dmbpaint@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance for any interest.

Theresa Yuan will have her art exhibited at the Old Sculpin Gallery August 20 to August 26. There will be a reception August 21 from 5 ‘til 7 p.m.

I re-read my column from two weeks ago. I wrote about the deer eating everything. I recommended to put water out but failed to mention that they are eating the leaves for the moisture. That is why the water was recommended.

I hope you were able to catch the activities of the week and got to the Fair.

For those heading home, I wish you safe travels. And good luck to the students going off to school.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
