Downed power lines in Oak Bluffs caused thousands of people to lose power Wednesday night.

Eversource reported power lines down on County Road at about 8 p.m., knocking out electricity to about 2,400 customers.

The utility had crews assess what caused the damage to the lines Wednesday. A spokesperson said they found an osprey nest had come in contact with power lines, causing a fault that damaged the electrical equipment.

Power was restored to most customers around 10 p.m., an Eversource spokesperson said.
