Here we are one week before July 4, and we have been through July weather. But how lucky are we that we have a natural fan that keeps us cooler than the city. I must admit though, I am looking for some rain as I have had to water a little more than I usually do in June.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Christian Fisher, who celebrated June 22; Allure Wilson June 23; and to Amera Mello who celebrated her day June 25.

Mort and Bev Feary were the hosts of the Martha’s Vineyard Animal Shelter garden party on Monday night. Their yard is beautiful and the perfect setting for this yearly event to support our shelter. When the charter bus pulled into their yard, we were greeted by two Alpaca’s that visited the event. You walked into their beautiful yard to see Meg Mercier creating a painting that would be auctioned off later that evening.

The night was a success and the auction was fun. Meg’s painting was purchased for more than $5000. A big thank you was given to the Feary’s and all the other volunteers, but special appreciation to Lisa Dawley, Gordon Healy and Tayla DeLaive who are at the shelter daily. Congratulations to all who did great jobs making the party a great success.

This month is the 65th anniversary of the last class to graduate from the Edgartown High School in 1959 (in the building which has been replaced by the new library). Here in Edgartown those seniors are Bob Burnham, who was president, Patricia Tyra (treasurer) and Margaret O’Neil Serpa.

Unfortunately, Eddie Belisle died over 10 years ago but he hosted one of the reunions at his house in 2009. His widow, Janice, hosted the last one in 2019 when nine members of the class were able to attend, including four from off-Island.

I wish you all a happy and safe Fourth of July.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
