Family is at the forefront of this year’s MV Community, Purpose and Legacy series.

The event will be held at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs on August 8 at 5 p.m. and feature three bestselling women writers being celebrated by their husbands.

Dr. Sharon Malone, author of Grown Women Talk, will be introduced by her husband, former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder; Nicole Avant, author of Think You’ll Be Happy, will be introduced by her husband, Co-CEO of Netflix Ted Sarandos; and Michele Norris, author of Our Hidden Conversations, will be introduced by her husband, Comcast executive vice president Broderick Johnson.

Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee co-host the show.

Co-director of the event James Hester said he created it to offer something impactful to the community at no charge.

“I just wanted to do something free for the people that are really the community and feel like they’re going to something,” Mr. Hester said.

The event is co-sponsored by Google for the second year in a row in partnership with Martha's Vineyard Chief Diversity Officer Summit. Melonie Parker, Chief Diversity Officer at Google, said she is "proud" to have Google as a co-sponsor. She added this "event aligns with our joint goals of fostering a culture of belonging and bringing communities together. We are excited about this year's program."

Local organizations will also be showcased at the event, including Vineyard House and the Apostolic House of Prayer.

AR Bernard will moderate and the event and Eddie LeVert of the O’Jays will perform.
